Cookies and similar technologies

The short version

This website stores two kinds of thing on your device. One remembers whether you said yes to analytics, and we store it whether you say yes or no, because otherwise we would have to keep asking. The other is Google Analytics, and it is only stored if you accept it.

You can change your mind at any time, further down this page.

What we store if you do nothing

We store this without asking, because remembering your choice is necessary to respect it. It contains one word, accepted or declined. It identifies nobody.

What we store only if you accept

If you accept, we load Google Analytics 4 from googletagmanager.com, and Google sets these:

Google is the processor for this and the data goes to the United States. Google's own documentation on how it uses cookies is the authoritative description of them, and our privacy notice covers Google Analytics alongside our other processors.

If you decline, none of this loads. No analytics script is fetched and no analytics cookie is set. Nothing on this site stops working.

What we do not do

  • We set no advertising cookie and we run no advertising pixel on this website.
  • We do not use cookies to identify you personally.
  • We do not sell anything to anybody.
  • Our fonts are served from this website, not from Google Fonts, so loading a page tells Google nothing until you accept analytics.

Changing your mind

Use the control below. It takes effect immediately.

If you switch analytics off, we delete the Google Analytics cookies described above from this website straight away, and nothing further is sent. We keep your vf-cookie-consent entry, because it is the record of your having said no.

You can also clear everything this site has stored by clearing site data for this website in your browser. If you do that, the banner will ask you again on your next visit.

The law this is under

Storing or reading anything on your device is governed in the United Kingdom by the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, alongside the UK General Data Protection Regulation. Analytics storage needs your consent, which is why it waits for you. Remembering your choice does not, which is why it does not.
